I love how Toyota incorporated the old Land Cruiser design elements into this new Land Cruiser. Well done! Please increase the gas tank size in the mid cycle refresh.
I heard someone drive it and keep it in hybird mode while costing getting it to 27mpg, gotta take it easy on the gas and coast it so the engine doesn't turn on your using the battery when you can
The hybrid kills it for me. People use to buy land cruisers for the same reason they’d buy defenders. To take into adverse environments far from people and in the off chance something broke it could be easily replaced or temporarily repaired in the field and taken back home. That’s not a reality with the new one.
I wish this Land Cruiser was marketed as Land Cruiser 250 or Land cruiser Prado, its not in the same class as the Land cruiser 200 we had up until 2021. Outside of USA there is Land Cruiser 300 which people call as Land Cruiser.
The 200 is a station wagon cruiser great for important people to be moved from point a to point b, 250 is in the middle as a light duty land cruiser great for the trails, 70 is a heavy duty Land Cruiser great truck. In north america toyota announced thr 250 as the new Flagship Land Cruiser
Tfl pitted this against an 80 series that had a 2 inch lift and 33’s. The base model 1958 LC got up the hardest part of the trail on street tires while the 80 couldn’t make it. I still don’t see how it’s not a real Land Cruiser when a lot of people think the 80 is the last “real Land Cruiser”. No lift and street tires and it still beat a modded 80 series.
This one is actually same size as the LC200 you've had before in US. Not smaller. It's on the same frame as LC300 but overall shape is a bit smaller than the 300.
I had my 2024 Land Cruiser for 2 months and it has now been in the service department for 1 month waiting for a new transmission. Not what I expected from my first Toyota.
Good informative review.. I think that the driver's visibility in all directions is super important to safe driving - and to all around driving enjoyment. I am surprised that it seems that no one is complaining about the large black box at the top middle part of the front windshield. 8:03 .. (This unfortunately is the same in just about all newer vehicles.) I know that is the housing for the safety monitoring equipment, but it also blocks the drivers (and passenger's) view out of the front windshield .. especially if you are taller (like me - about 6' "2). I think they should find another place to put the safety monitoring equipment so that the driver can use the entire windshield to look out - for safe driving. I trust my own eye sight MUCH more than relying on safety monitoring equipment to drive safely.
It’s not a first. The only first is selling the Prado in the states. They didn’t give us a cheaper version of the 300 series. That’s the way you make it sound. It’s a slight of hand.

As this LC is made in Japan and should make a difference in this department.
Coming from a 4runner truck to driving this more expensive smaller vehicle, not worth it IMO. They tried hard saying its the same size when its not and the materials are THIN. Smaller engine, thinner materials, a narrower cabin size, a louder engine driving, absolutely cant get rid of my 4runner now. 😂
I see automakers are once again trying to get people to buy subscriptions to features. Hopefully, the public rejects this. If I'm paying for a driving aid on the window sticker, I refuse to pay a subscription on top
I love the look of this truck. They should make a plug in hybrid version that exchanges all of the real 4WD equipment for a battery and two motors like the RAV4 Prime has. For those few people who buy this and never take it off roading. They could call it the Land Poser or the Faux Cruiser and just own the fact that it’s for Home Depot, Costco and family trips on the highway.
honestly they could make a plug in hybrid version and keep all the 4WD stuff. They just don't trust Lithium Ion battery's to last 400k miles under off-road conditions
Comparing to the “last generation” is misleading. This a Toyota version of a GX460. Now gx550. Comparing to the 200 series you’re buying into marketing “land cruiser” this is a prado
Just saw it in person. I wasn't impressed. It looks like a lower-trim cheap SUV. Too much plastic, it is a very plain looking truck and it's probably not as reliable as older toyotas. There is a reason why people are still paying top dollar for older gx460. Older toyota SUVs are far superior.
For MYs 2026 and newer, Toyota might need to replace the 1958 and namesake trims with these: * SR5 (replacing 1958) * Heritage (replaces namesake but mimics the LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited trims of other Toyotas) * TRD Pro * Trailhunter * GRX (performance-oriented flagship) Toyota might consider replacing the Sequoia with extended-length 3-row versions of the LC250 and Lexus GX Mk3.
Mirrors are narrow for overlanding between trees. The further storage cubby behind the second row are accessible from the passenger doors. And whoever complained about the stitching bothering their skin shouldn’t be testing vehicles. 😂
While nice to have for the front passenger when placed closer to the center screen, I never understood why all of the car reviewers cry about not having a physical volume knob when easy volume control is always right there on the steering wheel.
Tried to like it but cant get rid of my 4runner. More expensive, slightly smaller and narrower inside, the engine is LOUD. I mean its quick but the fuel tank is small too. Oh and it was embarrassing seeing the mud flap hanging after my test drive on this overpriced vehicle. The quality is so downhill I left disappointed. Cant believe what i was feeling for the price of this thing. NO THANK YOU.
I agree. My 2009 4Runner has a lower back deck (which is FLAT when the rear seats are folded down); 6-cyl engine, ~20-gal tank, 20+ mpg, no battery which adds a lot of weight--and probably faster.
Toyota is going through identity issues. They are trying to change all their models to he/him and she/her….with all this twistedness of Hybrid and Turbos. Where are the good old naturally aspirated engines? Simple straightforward, the way it was for decades.
I am curious how that hybrid max system does off-road. I saw some reviews with the grand highlander and its off roading abilities were hindered by the hybrid max system over heating..
Maybe if this was another $25K, this tester would be inspired? OH WAIT! That was the last LC and it didnt sell more than 5.000 units per year. cant imagine why Toyota didnt replicate that..
They didn't make it smaller and cheaper, they gave you a different model. You got downgraded from 300 series to 250. The volume knob is in a stupid place, they should put it on the centre console like Audi, BMW and Mazda.

GX looks so much nicer/classier/cleaner design, all petrol, nicer v6 engine. Hybrid complexity to save a few mpg doesn’t seem worth it. So much more complexity, parts, maintenance, repairs in the future for a hybrid.
